INDRA UNVEILS INNOVATIVE NATO STANDARDS FOR ENHANCED MILITARY VESSEL SECURITY GLOBALLY

The firm has joined forces with Navantia to execute these innovations on an initial ship aimed at the export sector and is advancing with their deployment across the complete fleet of the Spanish Navy.

The IFF serves as a critical component that, alongside Indra’s electronic defense systems, radars, and communication arrays, constitutes the foundation upon which the combat systems of naval vessels rely, thereby playing a pivotal role in mission success.

Specifically, the function of the IFF involves interrogating units within the operational theater, which provide an encrypted reply to ascertain if they are allies or potential adversaries.

This is accomplished through a sophisticated encryption system that is incessantly adapting to emerging threats, which are becoming progressively intricate, to thwart any attempts by adversaries to tamper with the signal.

In this context, the most recent modification introduced by NATO into the IFFs is known as STANAG standard edition 3 for mode 5, recognized as the most sophisticated interrogation mode currently available.

Integrating these enhancements is compulsory for allied nations and numerous other navies that are familiar with joint operations alongside NATO countries. This aspect is indeed a prerequisite for participation in multinational missions.
