KONGSBERG Secures Major Contracts Worth 8.2 Billion NOK!

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS (KONGSBERG) has finalized agreements with Norway and Germany to supply ORCCA™ combat system components for the six newly constructed 212CD submarines, along with the Naval Strike Missile for the two countries’ naval forces.

“The shipments will continue well into the 2030s and mark a significant and strategic milestone that bolsters our presence in Europe, with Germany as a vital and close ally. Our collaboration with Germany in submarine technology spans several decades. With this newly expanded industrial partnership, we are elevating our alliance to unprecedented heights, which will be crucial for advancements in Norwegian technology and value generation,” states Geir Håøy, CEO of KONGSBERG.

Naval Strike Missile for Both Nations

The NSM contract represents a collaborative procurement effort by Norway and Germany, amounting to 4,404 MNOK. Germany is the sixth nation to opt for the NSM. For Norway, this contract will aid in replenishing and modernizing the existing arsenal.

NSM is the cutting-edge 5th generation, long-range, precision strike missile available today. With its stealthy configuration and passive infra-red imaging sensor, it remains challenging to detect, enhancing its precision and minimizing collateral damage. The NSM is designed for multiple missions, targeting both sea and land, and boasts a stand-off range exceeding 100 nautical miles.

The ORCCA™ Combat System contract is a subcontract from thyssenkrupp Marine Systems GmbH, the lead contractor for the 212CD submarines, awarded to kta naval systems AS. KONGSBERG’s engagement in this combat system contract is valued at 3,800 MNOK.

ORCCA™ innovatively merges maximum adaptability with top-tier IT security. It empowers operators to perform sophisticated data analytics across a diverse array of sensors and systems through a multifunctional console, fostering an inclusive and expedited decision-making workflow.

Kta naval systems AS was established in October 2017 as a collaborative venture between thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, its Naval Electronic Systems division (ATLAS ELEKTRONIK), and Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace. Leveraging the combined knowledge and products of the joint venture partners, kta naval systems and its ORCCA™ Combat Systems family are committed to exclusively developing, producing, and maintaining all future submarine combat systems for thyssenkrupp Marine Systems’ submarines.

“This bilateral treaty between Germany and Norway facilitates increased industrial collaboration between our respective nations. Shared procurement for the NSM and submarines will generate numerous new employment opportunities and foster value creation throughout the entire supply chain in Norway for the forthcoming decade. Both the NSM and the new submarine class embody the most modern and sophisticated high-end technology available globally. KONGSBERG is delighted to be at the forefront of this undertaking,” asserts Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace AS.
