Raytheon Secures $1.68 Billion Deal with US Navy for Next-Gen Zumwalt Destroyer Enhancements
The U.S. Navy has granted Raytheon Missiles & Defense, a segment of Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX), a contract valued at $483 million for activation, sustainability, and enhancement, with potential options totaling $1.68 billion over a span of five years.
In alignment with this agreement, Raytheon Missiles & Defense will deliver services and personnel to the U.S. Navy to facilitate the activation and fleet induction of the three Zumwalt-class destroyers, while simultaneously progressing technology and combat capabilities.
“This contract emphasizes our position as a systems integrator, which extends beyond merely providing weaponry and radar systems,” stated Wes Kremer, president of Raytheon Missiles & Defense. “Our team extends comprehensive support for Zumwalt destroyers, encompassing engineering, cybersecurity, software development, and enhancements.”
Further services will encompass design, integration, testing, evaluation, system modernization and replacement, logistics product creation, configuration management, and training systems.
The Zumwalt-class destroyers recently attained initial operational capability in December 2021, with the first fleet operational use of USS Zumwalt planned for later this year.
