Naval Group has officially launched its subsidiary in Egypt, named Alexandria Naval for Maintenance and Industry. This new entity is purposed specifically for the upkeep of vessels engineered by Naval Group. It enhances Naval Group’s sustainable presence in Egypt for both existing and forthcoming naval initiatives.
The enduring collaboration between Naval Group and the Egyptian Navy, along with the Egyptian manufacturing sector, has reached a significant achievement with the inauguration of a subsidiary focused on the support of Naval Group’s vessels and future naval ventures. This accomplishment was made possible through successful contractual negotiations regarding the In Service Support (ISS) framework.
The strategic collaboration between Naval Group and Egypt actively contributes to the global emergence of the Egyptian Navy and aids in its modernization journey. The subsidiary will bolster these efforts by establishing a persistent local presence.
This subsidiary will empower the Egyptian Navy to achieve an unparalleled level of performance throughout the entire lifecycle of its ships. Alexandria Naval for Maintenance and Industry (ANMI) will ensure optimal utilization of the vessels and facilitate the upcoming upgrades on the four Gowind corvettes, the two LHDs, the FREMM, and other prospective ships.
The maintenance operations will complement the successful industrial cooperation initiative, which supports the construction of the three locally assembled Gowind corvettes. This operational subsidiary will serve as the primary platform to nurture ongoing discussions with Egyptian stakeholders within the context of the multiannual naval contracts. The newly established entity is projected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities across related industrial sectors in Egypt.
“Naval Group is deeply committed to preserving the operational efficiency of the Egyptian Navy’s vessels over the long term. The multiannual maintenance agreement represents a significant milestone and will provide additional industrial capacity for ANMI,” stated Nathalie Smirnov, Naval Group’s Executive Vice President responsible for Services.
The establishment of this subsidiary marks an additional affirmative step in Naval Group’s enduring partnership with Egypt. In July 2014, the Ministry of Defense of the Arab Republic of Egypt formalized the agreement for the construction of four Gowind corvettes. The first unit was constructed in Lorient and delivered to Egypt in September 2017. The second in the series is currently being constructed through technology transfer at Alexandria Shipyard and was launched in September 2018. Naval Group also delivered the FREMM multi-mission frigate Tahya Misr in August 2015. Furthermore, in June 2016, Naval Group supplied two Mistral-class Landing Helicopter Dock vessels to the Egyptian Navy.
