Unveiling Innovation: The United Arab Emirates Navy Welcomes Its Inaugural Gowind® Corvette from Naval Group
In 2019, the United Arab Emirates commissioned two Gowind® corvettes to be constructed in France.
The inaugural corvette, Bani Yas, was launched today at the Naval Group Lorient shipyard in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Saeed bin Hamdan Al-Nahyan. The subsequent corvette is currently under construction and is set to be launched next year.
Naval Group, as a comprehensive solution provider, will also train the UAE Navy’s personnel from the equipment level to the operational level. Beginning in France, this training will progress with team development and simulations on operational scenarios across various combat arenas in the Gulf.
Alain Guillou, Naval Group’s Senior Executive Vice President of Development, remarked: “We are privileged to have UAE representatives with us at our shipyard to witness the launch of their first Gowind® corvette. These two surface combat vessels will enhance the UAE Navy’s naval capabilities and this occasion signifies a crucial milestone for the program, closely aligned with the highly symbolic day marking the UAE’s 50th anniversary. The Bani Yas program demonstrates Naval Group’s ability to provide cutting-edge capabilities that fulfill specific demands of its clients through the integration of diverse sensors and armaments utilizing its SETIS Combat Management System.”
Gowind® has also been embraced by two other navies and is currently operational with the Egyptian Navy.
