Naval Group and Saudi Arabia: A 40-Year Legacy
Naval Group has been operational in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for nearly 40 years, focusing on establishing a long-lasting and sustainable partnership. After designing and producing 7 frigates and 2 oil replenishment vessels, Naval Group is dedicated to enhancing the availability of the Saudi fleet through its Riyadh-based subsidiary, Naval Group Arabia.
By aligning its projections with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, the Group is committed to furthering collaboration with local partners, facilitating support, and transferring skills and technologies through its subsidiary. Over the years, Naval Group has also fostered partnerships with universities to engage in innovative research aimed at bolstering the local naval industry.
A Thorough Offering for Contemporary Fleets
Naval Group stands among the few companies worldwide capable of delivering full warships with their combat systems and all essential equipment necessary to project naval power in operational theaters. At the World Defense Show, Naval Group’s presentation will highlight its comprehensive offerings, emphasizing its suite of services that span the entire lifecycle of a vessel, including surface ships and drones, such as:
Belharra® is the latest combat vessel for naval superiority and crisis management, tailored for navies in search of a compact frigate capable of executing various missions independently or as part of a task force, whether for extended high-seas operations or in shallow waters within congested and contested environments. As the first digital frigate, Belharra® boasts advanced capabilities in anti-air, anti-surface, anti-submarine, and asymmetric warfare, all informed by the operational legacy of the French Navy acquired during wartime. The modular design of Belharra® allows for customization to fulfill specific requirements of navies. Both the French Navy and the Hellenic Navy have opted for these advanced frigates.
- Mine Warfare Vessels (MCM “Mothership”)
Thanks to its longstanding relationship with the French Navy, Naval Group is currently the most experienced European industrial entity in the realm of mine warfare. Naval Group provides “motherships” fitted with proven maritime solutions, along with recognized expertise in the integration of various types of drones. The solution crafted for Belgium and the Netherlands through the rMCM program represents a significant advancement in this area and could cater to the requirements of numerous navies confronting similar challenges.
For over 15 years, Naval Group has propelled a robust initiative toward unmanned platforms and technologies. The drone and autonomous systems sector is a strategic cornerstone for Naval Group, enjoying a strong presence throughout the entire value chain (vessels, autonomous systems, force integration, services). We have executed key research programs for the French DGA and Navy to eliminate major technological barriers to integrating aerial UAVs. In the underwater drone sector, we have developed a docking station using in-house resources, and in the USVs domain, we have created the BE/NL launch and recovery system. This positions us uniquely to establish the navalization criteria for drones intended for operations from a combat vessel.
Naval Group provides an array of services that encompasses the entire lifecycle of a ship, from design to building, maintenance, and dismantling. At Naval Group, a team of over 5,000 professionals, based both in France and internationally, is accountable for designing, producing, and implementing comprehensive logistical support, in-service support, and modernization of ships, in addition to training, simulators, and marine infrastructure. To enhance ship availability, Naval Group is developing innovative digital service solutions in the realms of cybersecurity and smart maintenance.
Currently, Naval Group is managing over twenty significant in-service support programs. Annually, around fifty surface vessels and submarines are sustained in service in France and abroad, leveraging rare expertise and high-quality industrial partnerships.
