Saab Unveils Groundbreaking Double Eagle Deal with Kuwait

The Double Eagle array of underwater vehicles is a reliable and operationally validated ROV framework, utilized by naval forces globally to assist with mine countermeasure (MCM) operations. In the SAROV setup, the vehicle functions as both an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) for detection, classification, and identification, and as an ROV for mine neutralization. The U.S. Navy is acquiring this system under a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) initiative aimed at bolstering the Naval Force of Kuwait.

Manufactured and developed at Saab in Linköping, Sweden, this transaction signifies a pivotal step in extending the production of this Swedish innovation to the U.S. Saab, Inc.’s Autonomous and Undersea Systems Division will assemble components of this system in close partnership with production facilities in Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Denmark.

“We’re thrilled to commence production of this underwater vehicle capability in the United States. The Autonomous and Undersea Systems team has assembled a highly specialized group of underwater vehicle specialists and established significant new manufacturing capacities for Saab that equip us for broader U.S. market penetration,” stated Erik Smith, President and CEO of Saab in the U.S.

These exceptionally agile vehicles can be deployed from various types of vessels, from coastal areas, or from suitable craft. All Double Eagle solutions can be accommodated in a standard container, providing a versatile deployment solution across diverse platforms, enabling swift action against mine hazards.
