Saab Secures Additional Order for Heavyweight Torpedo System

Saab has obtained an order from the Swedish Defence Material Organisation (FMV) for the forthcoming phase of the lifecycle extension programme of Torpedo 62. The value of the order is SEK 145 million, with deliveries expected by the conclusion of 2023.

This order encompasses preliminary studies and engineering, which integrate subsystem prototypes for enhancements of the existing torpedo.

“This order facilitates the advancement of a more proficient torpedo system for the future. We are eager to keep progressing one of the Swedish Navy’s primary weapon systems,” states Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s business sector Dynamics.

Manufacturing and development activities will be conducted in Linköping and Motala.

The lifecycle extension programme for the Swedish Navy’s heavyweight torpedo was initially signed in 2020. Torpedo 62 represents a heavyweight torpedo system designed for both surface and underwater targets. Torpedo 62 features a sophisticated propulsion system with high capacity and extended endurance, complemented by an advanced target seeker, engineered for the Swedish Navy’s operational environment.
