Saab Secures Deal for Advanced MuMNS in Franco-British Maritime Mine Warfare Initiative
Saab has secured its initial order from leading contractor Thales, serving as System Integrator for the complete solution regarding the Multi-Shot Mine Neutralisation System (MuMNS). The total order value is around 300 MSEK, with the first system deliveries scheduled for 2022.
The agreement with Thales is a crucial element of the Franco-British Maritime Mine Countermeasures (MMCM) initiative, in which Saab will provide advanced mine detection and eradication systems operated from unmanned surface vessels. These systems will be utilized by the Royal Navy and the French Navy.
“We are delighted to unveil our inaugural clients for the MuMNS. It represents a significant achievement to offer capabilities that allow these navies to execute safer and more efficient Mine Countermeasures operations, as operators can neutralize multiple underwater mines from a secure distance,” states Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s business domain Dynamics.
The MuMNS represents a pioneering evolution in mine detection and disposal, featuring a robust, modular system built on tested unmanned Saab technology and Mine Countermeasures solutions. This results in unmatched operational capability with enhanced flexibility, which markedly boosts operational tempo while diminishing the costs of Mine Countermeasures operations and minimizing risks to personnel.
This order was recorded during Q4 2020.
