Thales Unveils Sea Fire Radar: A Game-Changer for the Future of France’s FDI Frigates Combat System

The Thales Sea Fire radar has been certified by the French General Directorate of Armaments (Direction générale de l’armement – DGA); it is now prepared for incorporation into the combat framework of the advanced FDI Frigates (Defense and Intervention Frigates) conceived by Naval Group.

In accordance with the DGA’s original timeline, this significant qualification milestone was accomplished after 18 months of rigorous evaluations conducted at the shore integration facility (SIF) – the DGA Naval technical expertise center’s air defense systems testing site (SESDA), situated in Saint-Mandrier (Southern France). The Sea Fire is a cutting-edge solid-state modular multifunction radar, featuring a four-panel AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) antenna that concurrently executes long-range aerial and surface monitoring, as well as missile direction, to safeguard frigates from various types of threats in intricate environments.
