Innovative ASW Solutions from DSIT Powers New Naval Vessel for NATO at Premier European Shipyard
DSIT Solutions’ BlackFish™ Hull Mounted Sonar (HMS) and WhitePointer™ Underwater Communication (UWC) systems will be integrated with the patron’s selected Combat Management System (CMS)
February 23, 2023. DSIT Solutions Ltd. (DSIT) ‒ a global frontrunner in underwater defense and safety solutions, providing cutting-edge sonar and acoustic technologies for naval, homeland security, and energy sectors ‒ secured a contract several months prior with a prominent European shipyard. Under the agreement, DSIT will furnish and integrate the complete ASW sonar package ‒ including DSIT’s BlackFish HMS and WhitePointer UCS systems, along with an acoustic dome ‒ with the client’s specified combat management system.
BlackFish HMS is a state-of-the-art medium frequency system crafted for the self-defense of medium-to-large surface vessels participating in both coastal and deep-water Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) missions. The BlackFish system delivers modern, sophisticated underwater search, detection, tracking, and classification functionalities. Utilizing innovative electronics and acoustic technologies, machine learning, automation, and signal processing, the BlackFish system safeguards surface vessels against submarines, moored mines, underwater threats, and torpedoes. Its outstanding acoustic performance ensures a high probability of detection, as well as an extensive detection range for submarines and incoming torpedoes. The open architecture facilitates seamless integration with existing C4I systems and supplementary sensors.
WhitePointer, a robust Underwater Communication System (UCS), allows dependable voice and data transfers between surface vessels, submarines, and other underwater entities such as SDVs, DPVs, AUVs, UUVs, and divers. This system, which incorporates a high-power, synthesized transceiver, supports underwater communication networks accommodating multiple users. Up to 30 frequencies can be programmed, and an exclusive monitoring feature permits the user to listen to any transmission on NATO frequency while operating the transceiver at a separate frequency. Both BlackFish and WhitePointer will be installed within a single dome.
The all-encompassing system was chosen by the Shipyard and the Navy after an exhaustive evaluation process, due to its exceptional reliability, outstanding performance, proven track record, ease of operation, maintenance, and overall affordability. The sophisticated algorithms created by DSIT for the BlackFish system to diminish operator workload, combined with alerting functions for various underwater risks, provide accurate location and identification of underwater threats.
Mr. Hanan Marom, VP BD & Marketing, stated, “The elevated automation level of the system and its intuitive interface allow the BlackFish HMS system to be operated by a single personnel, significantly lessening workload and training demands. The package includes BlackFish along with the underwater communication system, both to be installed collectively in a single dome. We are confident that the patron will find high satisfaction and reap substantial benefits from the system’s superior capabilities.”
