“Revolutionary Vulcano 127 Guided Munitions Unveiled for German Navy by Diehl Defence and Leonardo”
The German Navy successfully concludes the operational capability assessment with frigate F125 – deployment commences now.
In alignment with the stipulations from the Italian and German administrations, the firms Diehl Defence and Leonardo have developed and certified the precision-guided munitions series Vulcano 127 and 155 mm. Assurance of compatibility with all 127 mm and 155 mm weaponry is guaranteed.
During the deployment phase, the German Navy effectively finished the operational capability assessment of the Vulcano 127mm guided munitions, discharged from frigate F125 equipped with Leonardo’s 127/64 Lightweight naval gun. This encompasses the entire ammunition process in the system, involving programming and firing with confirmed range and accuracy under operational settings.
The Vulcano munitions are engineered to attain extended firing ranges of 70 km for Vulcano 155 and 80 km for Vulcano 127, coupled with exceptional precision against both stationary and mobile targets.
Besides the standard configuration featuring a Height of Burst (HoB) sensor, additional setups have been validated, incorporating terminal homing sensors SAL (Semi-Active Laser) and FarIR (Far Infrared), designed for engagement of stationary and moving single targets with maximum precision.

This positions the Vulcano series as the most precise artillery munitions for both terrestrial and naval applications globally.
The robust multi-role, Insensitive High-Explosive (IHE) warhead with pre-fragmented tungsten fragments proves highly effective against soft targets, vehicles, semi-armored units, infrastructures, and typical infantry command centers.
Thus, not only will the Italian Navy be outfitted with Vulcano 127 guided munitions, but these successful evaluations also lay the groundwork for the German Navy to integrate the system as well.
