The U.S. Navy has granted L3Harris Technologies (NYSE:LHX) a contract valued at $393 million to implement phases II and III of the Undersea Warfare Training Range (USWTR).

This contract follows almost a decade of performance by L3Harris on Phase I and aims to rejuvenate and enhance the remaining underwater training range facilities.

USWTR Phase I encompassed the installation of ocean sensors and terrestrial electronic subsystems, servicing the roughly 500-square-nautical-mile region near Jacksonville, Florida. Under Phases II and III, L3Harris will modernize and upgrade the previously established systems at the U.S. Navy’s additional three range sites located near Hawaii, the Bahamas, and Southern California.

The USWTRs facilitate vessels, submarines, and aircraft to monitor targets on both the surface and below for anti-submarine warfare preparation. Each range features over 600 miles of subsea cabling, several hundred advanced acoustic sensors, along with shore-based management, display, and processing systems.

“I’m honored by our team’s achievement of delivering Phase I two years ahead of schedule, enabling us to expedite this award to assist the sailors and provide them early access to the finest undersea range technology available for maintaining operational readiness,” stated Christopher E. Kubasik, Chief Executive Officer of L3Harris. “For sixty years, in collaboration with both our U.S. and global Navy partners, L3Harris has effectively developed, produced, installed, and supported undersea training range technology. Our expertise guarantees that sailors train in an environment closely resembling their operational field, equipping them with a competitive edge.”
