The U.S. Navy has chosen the Naval Strike Missile, presented by Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) and Kongsberg Gruppen, to fulfill its over-the-horizon need for littoral combat vessels and upcoming frigates.

Raytheon will produce and supply over-the-horizon armament systems under a $14.8 million agreement for offensive missiles housed within launching systems, alongside a single fire control suite. The contract incorporates options which, if executed, would elevate the total value to $847.6 million.
The NSM is a long-range precision missile designed to engage heavily defended land and maritime targets. Capable of overcoming enemy defenses at distances up to 100 nautical miles, it utilizes advanced seeker and target identification technology.
“Raytheon and Kongsberg are supplying the Navy with a tested, off-the-shelf solution that surpasses the requirements for the over-the-horizon mission,” stated Dr. Taylor W. Lawrence, president of Raytheon Missile Systems. “As it is operational currently, NSM conserves the United States billions in development expenditures and fosters new high-tech job opportunities domestically.”
Raytheon will fabricate NSM launchers, missiles, and components in the U.S. Production of launchers has commenced at its facility in Louisville, Kentucky, with final assembly and testing of missiles occurring at its Tucson, Arizona plant. This contract will create business for more than two dozen American suppliers. The missile program is the latest outcome of a longstanding partnership with trusted ally Norway and its defense leader Kongsberg.
“Raytheon and Kongsberg are celebrating 50 years of collaboration, and the selection of the NSM represents another successful milestone in our strong alliance,” remarked Eirik Lie, president of Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace AS. “We are proud to offer the U.S. Navy a unique solution, combining the capabilities of NSM with Raytheon’s expertise as the world’s foremost missile manufacturer.”
