Polaris Defense Launches Power-Packed Turbo Diesel MRZRs and Trailers for Canada’s Infantry Troops

WINNIPEG – August 23, 2016 — Public Services & Procurement Canada has partnered with Polaris to deliver 36 Polaris Defense turbo diesel MRZR (MRZR-D) multi-role vehicles and 12 tactical trailers through Polaris Industries Ltd, the Canadian branch of Polaris Industries Inc. MRZR units provide essential lightweight, off-road mobility cherished by expeditionary forces across the U.S. and over 20 allied nations.

Designed for the portability of the soldiers utilizing them, MRZR vehicles can be transported via H-47 (Chinook), H-53, and V-22 (Osprey) aircraft and may be customized in multiple configurations, including two-, four-, and six-passenger formats. The latest MRZR-D features a turbocharged diesel engine meticulously engineered to meet the performance and physical requirements of the original MRZR models. While many key attributes – such as dimensions, payload capacity, towing capabilities, ground clearance, and handling – remain consistent, feedback from the field has been incorporated into the new version, improving seating space, ergonomics, and visibility. The MRZR-D also provides enhanced auxiliary power and an increased operational range, boosting its efficiency.

“MRZRs deliver a highly sought-after capability by offering infantry personnel burdened with heavy packs a means of transport that facilitates faster movement while maintaining the advantage of discreet, off-road functionality,” stated Stephen Panciocco, Program Manager, Polaris Defense. “We are delighted that the Canadian Army has selected Polaris to explore this capability and look forward to providing our support.”

For the Canadian Army, each MRZR-D will be equipped with IR lighting, a 2,041 kg (4500 lb) winch, and a host of other standard and tactical features employed by U.S. and allied forces. The tactical trailer adds another 454 kg (1000 lb) payload capacity. It is designed to match the MRZR in pace and features a fully independent suspension system along with a detachable tongue and pintle-style hitch, enabling 180-degree rotation in restricted spaces, enhancing mobility and easing transportation and storage. The sides are interchangeable, and the rear gate folds down for maximum storage flexibility.

The contract was awarded in June by Public Services & Procurement Canada on behalf of the Department of National Defence, with an option to procure up to 18 more MRZR-Ds and as many as six additional tactical trailers. The vehicles and trailers are set to be delivered to light infantry battalions based at Canadian Forces Bases in Edmonton, Petawawa, and Valcartier for assessment later this year. Production of the original gas-powered MRZR 2 and MRZR 4 continues under the LTATV program for USSOCOM and additional international agreements.

Polaris Defense vehicles offer an unparalleled blend of deployability, versatility, and off-road agility, honed from over 60 years of unmatched off-road vehicle expertise. Products include the rugged Sportsman MV 850, the dynamic and versatile MRZR, and the DAGOR, which enhances payload, range, and off-road capability beyond any previous tactical off-road vehicle. The enhanced tactical mobility provided by Polaris Defense equips dismounted troops with a vital edge, enabling them to move swiftly, carry larger loads, and significantly reduce combat fatigue. Polaris FSR support is deployable globally, covering military vehicle training, servicing, and maintenance, and can be augmented through the extensive Polaris distributor network. With Polaris vehicles utilized worldwide, there is a high level of interoperability and consistency among U.S. and allied forces.
