Saab Secures Contract for Arexis Sensor Technology to Enhance German Eurofighters

Saab has secured a contract from Airbus Defence and Space for the Arexis Electronic Warfare (EW) sensor system. The duration of the agreement spans from 2024 to 2026.

The German defense acquisition agency declared in June 2023 that it had opted for Saab’s Arexis sensor system for the Eurofighter EK, an EW variant of the German Air Force’s Eurofighter jets. This contract signifies the commencement of the initial phase of Saab’s delivery of Arexis within this initiative.

Saab obtained the contract from Airbus, which will outfit 15 of the German Air Force’s Eurofighters for EW operations utilizing solutions such as Saab’s Arexis. These fighter jets will take the place of the German Air Force’s Tornado ECR, which are slated for retirement by 2030.

“Our extensive expertise in crafting electronic warfare systems for aerial platforms, along with our enduring partnership with Airbus, will be vital for facilitating the delivery of the Eurofighter EK to the German Air Force. By merging cutting-edge hardware and AI-driven software, our Arexis sensor system will enhance the German military’s capabilities with future-ready electronic warfare solutions for years to come,” states Micael Johansson, CEO and President of Saab.

Saab will collaborate with its strategic AI ally Helsing, and the Arexis system will incorporate Helsing’s AI platform. Arexis empowers users to detect, pinpoint, and classify radar emitters in intricate and crowded electromagnetic landscapes.

The Arexis system is a validated EW suite designed for combat aircraft, featuring state-of-the-art sensor and self-defense functionalities. It is modular and can be customized for nearly any contemporary platform.
