“EDGE Launches Next-Gen Drone Solutions for Brazil’s Defense and Security Pioneers”
EDGE, one of the planet’s leading advanced technology and defense organizations, hosted a capability demonstration in April for the ANAVIA HT-100 unmanned helicopter at the Army Activities Centre in Restinga da Marambaia, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The exhibition showcased the HT-100’s aerial functionalities in rapidly and reliably delivering actionable tactical intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) data in real-time.
Designed and produced by EDGE subsidiary ANAVIA, a Switzerland-based entity specializing in innovative unmanned aerial systems, the HT-100 represents European engineering brilliance and creativity in VTOL technology. ANAVIA’s expertise was instrumental in achieving the performance and reliability showcased during the live presentation.
During the event, delegates from the Brazilian Armed Forces, the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro State, the National Secretariat of Public Safety, the Public Security Secretariat of Rio de Janeiro, the Federal Police, the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, the Special Border Group of Mato Grosso, Petrobras, and specialized security firms witnessed the HT-100 reaching a 15-minute readiness timeframe—from system initiation to launch—and performing a diverse flight profile. This encompassed hovering, low-speed and low-altitude navigation, figure-eight maneuvers, and circular flight paths. The presentation also underscored the HT-100’s visual line-of-sight (VLOS) and beyond visual line-of-sight (BVLOS) capabilities, alongside enhanced situational awareness via real-time mapping.
Tiago Silva, CEO of EDGE’s Latin America (LATAM) division, remarked: “In response to the defense and public safety requirements in Latin America, the HT-100 offers an essential solution across various operational scenarios tailored to the region’s unique challenges. This demonstration brought together several prospective partners, who could significantly gain from deploying the HT-100 in support of strategic operations.”
The HT-100 is a versatile, day/night, adverse-weather-capable unmanned helicopter devised as a quickly deployable alternative to manned rotorcraft for intelligence and data-collection operations. With a maximum payload of 60 kg, it is produced by ANAVIA and signifies the company’s commitment to revolutionizing tactical ISR activities with endurance, accuracy, and cutting-edge autonomy. The HT-100 features a sophisticated rotor system and an industrial-grade turbine, allowing up to 6 hours of flight time with high energy efficiency and dependable performance with reduced vibration.
Jon Andri Jörg, CEO of ANAVIA, stated: “With the HT-100, we are setting a new standard in unmanned rotary aviation. Our mission at ANAVIA is to furnish armed forces and security agencies with a reliable and exceptionally capable platform that operates with precision, even in the most demanding conditions. This successful demonstration in Brazil reinforces our ambition of bringing European ingenuity to the global defense market by leveraging the extensive reach and capabilities of EDGE Group.”
