Milrem Robotics Unveils Cutting-Edge Combat Drones at Riyadh’s World Defense Show
During the World Defense Show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Milrem Robotics, a prominent developer of robotics and autonomous systems in Europe, presents their most sophisticated autonomous Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV), THeMIS, which significantly enhance combat operations while minimizing personnel requirements.
The showcased UGVs include the THeMIS Combat and THeMIS Cargo, presented in collaboration with the Kingdom’s rapidly advancing precision engineering firm, Wahaj, and UAE’s EDGE Group, respectively.
THeMIS Combat UGVs deliver high-accuracy direct fire support for maneuver units and function as a force augmenter. Outfitted with Wahaj’s self-stabilizing, dual-gun SCORPION Remotely Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS), alongside advanced sensors and fire control systems, THeMIS Combat UGVs empower units to evaluate and engage adversaries from extended standoff distances, enhancing force protection and survivability.
THeMIS Cargo UGVs are designed to alleviate the cognitive burden on soldiers while providing a means to transport and utilize additional gear and firepower. These UGVs boost the mobility of dismounted units, making them more effective against threats. The THeMIS Cargo can also be utilized for casualty evacuations, autonomous resupply, and to aid in on-base logistical operations.
All THeMIS UGVs can be outfitted with Milrem’s Intelligent Functions Kit – MIFIK – which empowers vehicles to conduct on- and off-road missions autonomously. MIFIK enables UGV operators to chart missions using waypoint navigation and determine vehicle behaviors based on specific locations or events.
“By automating repetitive tasks and enhancing combat functionalities, THeMIS UGVs improve the efficiency of military operations while reducing the necessity for extensive manpower deployments,” stated Patrick E. Shepherd, Chief Sales Officer of Milrem Robotics.
“Our goal is to equip military forces with innovative technology that ensures personnel safety and boosts mission success,” Shepherd further emphasized.
MIFIK also incorporates enhanced safety features due to advanced sensors, obstacle detection and avoidance systems, as well as real-time communication capabilities aimed at safeguarding the vehicle and ensuring mission accomplishment.
The THeMIS Cargo can be located at the UAE Pavilion in stand P2, while the THeMIS Combat with Wahaj is at stand P17.1.
Milrem Robotics stands as a leading European innovator in robotics and autonomous systems and systems integration, with offices situated in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United States. The company is recognized for their THeMIS and Multiscope UGVs, the Type-X Robotic Combat Vehicle, and MIFIK.
