Thales Wins NATO Contract for Advanced M21 Secure Modems and Innovative NetIP Traffic Enhancement Solution

Thales secured a NATO agreement in March 2016 to provide 13 secure modems along with the innovative NetIP solution designed for optimizing network traffic. The M21 modems are scheduled for installation at NATO’s four new tactical satellite communications stations in April 2017.

The Modem 21 product from Thales is already operational with various NATO member states and features the STANAG 4606 compliant secure waveform. It delivers exceptional levels of security, safeguarding satellite communications against jamming, interference, and unauthorized access.

The new NetIP solution facilitates end-to-end network traffic optimization, efficiently managing crucial data streams across military and civilian IP networks with assured quality of service (QoS) tiers. Currently, it is deployed within French tactical satellite networks on the ASTRIDE and SYRACUSE III programs and is set to undergo testing by NATO, commencing in 2017.

When integrated with Modem 21, the NetIP solution increases the number of potential users without necessitating an expansion of satellite resources, ensuring priority traffic management to maintain network availability for essential data transmission. Thales remains the sole contractor with the proficiency required to deliver this functionality. This NATO agreement exemplifies the company’s capability to provide high-performance satellite communication systems that offer comprehensive security and priority management, ensuring service continuity even in the most critical scenarios.
