Thailand Welcomes the THeMIS Combat UGV from Milrem Robotics
At the conclusion of the previous year, the foremost European developer of robotics and autonomous systems, Milrem Robotics, supplied the THeMIS Combat unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) to the Defence Technology Institute (DTI). The Robotic Combat Vehicle (RCV), as it is referred to, is set to undergo testing and assessment by the Royal Thai Army and DTI shortly.
The RCV consists of the THeMIS UGV paired with the R400S – Mk2-HD Remote Weapon Station (RWS) from the Australian Space and Defence enterprise Electro Optic Systems (EOS). The RWS also features the Northrop Grumman M230 LF cannon. Milrem Robotics is designated as the system integrator for the RCV.
“We are privileged to partner with the Royal Thai Army and DTI in robotic systems. This delivery and deployment signify an important milestone for Milrem THeMIS. It showcases that THeMIS can excel in extremely demanding environments. Furthermore, the successful incorporation of a 30 mm weapon system elevates THeMIS’ firepower to unprecedented levels. Our collaboration with DTI aims to enhance local robotic technology capabilities in Thailand, particularly in local assembly and system integration,” remarked Kuldar Väärsi, CEO of Milrem Robotics.
The THeMIS Combat UGVs deliver direct fire support to maneuver forces and function as a force multiplier. Equipped with an integrated self-stabilizing remote-controlled weapon system, they ensure high precision across extensive areas, both day and night, enhancing stand-off distance, force protection, and survivability. THeMIS Combat UGVs can be outfitted with light or heavy machine guns, 40 mm grenade launchers, and Anti-Tank Missile Systems.
The THeMIS UGV has already been adopted by 12 nations, including several NATO allies. Besides supplying the unmanned vehicle, Milrem Robotics collaborates with end-users on various systems integration initiatives.
Milrem Robotics stands as the premier European developer and systems integrator for robotics and autonomous systems. The organization is renowned for its THeMIS and Multiscope Unmanned Ground Vehicles, along with the Type-X Robotic Combat Vehicle. The THeMIS supports ground troops, while the Multiscope is designed for civilian applications such as forestry and firefighting. The Type-X Robotic Combat Vehicle serves as a wingman for mechanized units.
Milrem Robotics leads a consortium that was allocated 30.6M (EUR) from the European Commission’s European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP) to create a standardized European unmanned ground system (UGS).
During the initiative, known as iMUGS, a modular and scalable architecture for hybrid manned-unmanned systems will be developed to standardize a continent-wide ecosystem in Europe.
