ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (Feb. 19, 2017) — The United Arab Emirates Navy has awarded Raytheon a multi-million-dollar direct commercial transaction for an undisclosed quantity of Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) Rolling Airframe Missiles (RAMs) Block 2, as well as related equipment, training, and support.
RAM is recognized as a top-tier ship self-defense armament. It is a supersonic, lightweight, rapid-response, fire-and-forget system designed to safeguard vessels against anti-ship missiles, helicopters, aircraft, and surface vessels.
“The Emirates are keen on safeguarding the investments they’ve made in their naval capabilities, and that’s exactly what RAM missiles deliver,” mentioned Chris Davis, president of Raytheon International Inc. in the UAE.
The missiles are set to enhance the protection of the Emirates’ Baynunah-class corvettes, which are deployed by the UAE Navy for surveillance, interception, coastal patrol, helicopter operations, and diverse security missions.
Alan Davis, Raytheon’s Director of short-range defense systems, asserted that the RAM Block 2 suits the UAE Navy perfectly as it “provides defense against sophisticated threats that maneuver faster than other systems can neutralize.”
