Rheinmetall and Lockheed Martin Team Up to Revolutionize Canada’s Future Army Vehicle Training Program

Rheinmetall is collaborating with Lockheed Martin to advance the Canadian Army’s Land Vehicle Crew Training System (LVCTS) initiative. Rheinmetall Canada will spearhead a partnership that includes Lockheed Martin Canada, Rheinmetall Electronics from Bremen, Germany, and Lockheed Martin Training and Logistics Solutions from Orlando, Florida. Through this alliance, Rheinmetall Canada aims to provide the Canadian Army with a solution for the LVCTS project that is innovative, adaptable, and economically viable, while also offering significant economic advantages for Canada.

The LVCTS solution is designed to enable the Canadian Army to perform advanced training at individual, crew, platoon, and higher command levels, utilizing high- to medium-fidelity reconfigurable trainers, alongside traditional trainee workstations embedded in an immersive virtual environment, supported by a comprehensive instructional system. This software will cater to all training levels and is built to develop increasingly challenging scenarios, precisely replicating diverse terrain types, climatic conditions, abilities, and tactics. The instructional system will assess crews against a doctrinal standard across all complexity tiers. Individual Crew Training Systems (CTSs) will be interconnected through Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) protocols and High-Level Architecture (HLA) gateways to facilitate section, platoon, or higher command level training. Moreover, the system will feature a learning management system for customizing training scenarios, monitoring trainee progress, and conducting post-action analyses.

According to Pietro Mazzei, Vice-President of Rheinmetall Canada, “This partnership merges two of the globe’s foremost suppliers of military training solutions to equip the Canadian Army with the most advanced modular system. Rheinmetall and Lockheed Martin enjoy stellar global reputations for delivering and supporting cutting-edge systems for precision gunnery and crew task training. We are eager to apply this expertise for the Canadian Army.”

“Lockheed Martin Canada is privileged to partner with Rheinmetall on a LVCTS solution for the Canadian Army,” states Lorraine Ben, CEO of Lockheed Martin Canada. “Building on 80 years of dedication to the Canadian Armed Forces, we are excited to leverage our team’s expertise and experience, particularly in world-class simulation and training systems. This collaboration merges industry-leading technology with Canadian competence to deliver vital land training capabilities in Canada for the foreseeable future.”

Lockheed Martin Training and Logistics Solutions is a premier provider of Army training solutions globally, including the two largest virtual collective training systems — the U.S. Army’s Close Combat Tactical Trainer (CCTT) and the UK Combined Arms Tactical Trainer (UK CATT).
