Leonardo, in conjunction with the Directorate for Air Armaments and Airworthiness of the Italian Secretariat General of Defence/National Armaments Directorate, formalized yesterday the Acquisition Contract for the provision of one C-27J aircraft to the Slovenian Ministry of Defence, along with supplementary equipment for aero-medical operations, training services, and two years of integrated logistic support.
This agreement aligns with the framework of the Italy-Slovenia Government-to-Government (G2G) Pact, which was signed by the Italian Defence Minister, Lorenzo Guerini, and the Slovenian Defence Minister, Matej Tonin, on 17 November 2021. It seeks to enhance the cooperative relationship between the two nations.

Lucio Valerio Cioffi, General Manager of Leonardo, stated: “We are pleased to finalize the contractual phase of the G2G initiative between Italy and Slovenia with this significant milestone. The C-27J Spartan is the optimal solution to address the stringent demands established by the partnership between our two governments.”
Utilized in the most demanding geographic, climatic, and operational contexts, Leonardo’s C-27J Spartan is an aircraft designed to undertake a wide array of defence and civil protection missions. The substantial experience garnered from operations alongside diverse air forces globally makes it the premier aircraft for military transport operations, paratrooper and material airdrops, ‘last mile’ tactical troop support, special operations, humanitarian aid, medical evacuations, and disaster relief initiatives.
The Spartan epitomizes the core concept of national security, proving to be an ideal asset for defence operations while making an essential contribution to public support and civil protection efforts. In a world influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic and a multitude of other crises, the Spartan has demonstrated its capacity to provide effective and enduring assistance to communities in need.
