Kongsberg Secures Dramatic NOK 12 Billion Deal for Advanced NASAMS and NOMADS Systems in the Netherlands
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (‘KONGSBERG’) has entered into a contract with the Dutch government for the provision of NASAMS and NOMADS aerial defense systems.
The agreement is estimated to be worth approximately NOK 12 billion.
The contract was formalized on November 21. This came after KONGSBERG’s announcement on October 14, when the Netherlands government submitted a proposal to Parliament, detailing its intention to procure the new systems as part of the CITADEL initiative, a holistic integrated air and missile defense strategy.
“By opting for NASAMS and NOMADS, the Netherlands will bolster its aerial defense capabilities with a unified solution that addresses short- and medium-range threats. The Netherlands remains a vital participant in the expansive NASAMS user community, and we are thrilled to welcome the nation as the inaugural international NOMADS client,” stated Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.
The Netherlands first obtained the NASAMS framework in 2006. The latest acquisitions will enhance and broaden the nation’s ground-based aerial defense capacities. The CITADEL initiative further incorporates the National Manoeuvre Air Defence System, NOMADS – a highly adaptable air defense arrangement featuring short-range missiles designed for the safeguarding of ground forces in a volatile and contested land combat scenario. NOMADS is seamlessly integrated with NASAMS and other NATO platforms, facilitating autonomous and networked operations across multiple units.
Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2028.
NASAMS (National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) stands as the world’s first operational Network Centric Short to Medium Range Ground-Based Air Defense System, developed by KONGSBERG and Raytheon of the United States.
