Finnish Defense Forces Launch Cutting-Edge 6×6 Multi-Utility Vehicle with Superior Protection Features
Protolab Oy is thrilled to introduce the delivery of the first Protolab 6×6 Protected Multi-Purpose Vehicles (PMPV) to the Finnish Defence Forces (FDF). Protolab is providing four PMPVs to the FDF under a contract finalized in 2018. These vehicles are currently undergoing operational assessments by the FDF as part of a broad modernization effort aimed at enhancing and upgrading its armored vehicle inventory.
The Protolab PMPV is exceptionally agile and maneuverable, capable of performing various mission roles such as reconnaissance, troop and cargo transportation, and command post operations. Amphibious and MEDIVAC versions are also available. This innovative 6×6 armored personnel carrier is engineered to meet the mobility, protection, and communication requirements of Special Operations Forces and paramilitary security agencies.
This PMPV has been designed from scratch, offering integrated high-level mine and ballistic protection in accordance with customer-defined blast protection standards of STANAG 4569. The vehicle can be customized with a variety of customer-specific weapon systems.
It accommodates two crew members and ten fully-equipped soldiers or carries a maximum cargo load of up to 10,000 kg. More compact than standard combat vehicles, the vehicle’s 2.55m width makes it ideal for urban operations, providing exceptional mobility both on and off-road. Powered by a Cummins 6.7L multifuel engine, it adheres to Euro 3 emission standards, allowing for classification as an N3G class truck (off-road).
These groundbreaking design features make it an optimal choice for addressing the challenges faced by today’s military forces.
“Our goal was to design the Protolab PMPV 6×6 with the specific needs of modern soldiers and contemporary asymmetric battlefields in focus,” remarked Juha Moisio, Business Development Director, Protolab Oy. “Employing a design methodology that integrates Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) components along with a limited number of custom parts, the Protolab PMPV provides a cost-effective solution for various tasks encountered by special operations, security, and crisis management units in the field.”
“We are excited to see the vehicle making significant progress during field evaluations with the FDF, and we’re receiving positive feedback from the client. We are confident that the Protolab PMPV will become the preferred choice for clients looking to modernize their existing 6×6 vehicle fleets with a contemporary, protected, and versatile solution.”
