Boeing and Gulf Air Unite at Aviation Forum to Fuel Bahrain’s Future Growth

Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Gulf Air convened a two-day Commercial Aviation Leadership Seminar on April 15–16 in Manama, bringing together senior leaders from Gulf Air and Boeing for a valuable training program aimed at reinforcing Gulf Air’s continuous growth strategy.

The seminar covered crucial topics, including airline tactics and operational models, network and fleet development, revenue enhancement, and the differences between aircraft leasing and procurement. During the discussions, Boeing and Gulf Air explored how evolving business models and aircraft technologies are shaping the future of the industry, the importance of market research in developing profitable networks, and methods to optimize aircraft performance and financial returns.

Gulf Air Group Chief Executive Officer Dr. Jeffrey Goh stated: “Gulf Air has nurtured a longstanding and dependable partnership with Boeing—one that has been vital in shaping our journey as a national carrier. Through the years, Boeing’s innovation, technical capabilities, and steadfast support have significantly bolstered our fleet modernization and operational success. As we progress, we are hopeful that our collaboration will thrive and expand, promoting further growth, sustainability, and excellence in the aviation industry.”

The training sessions equipped Gulf Air attendees with practical insights on how airlines choose the most suitable aircraft to align with their network strategies, factors influencing aircraft delivery schedules—such as availability and financing options—and the pros and cons of leasing versus purchasing aircraft. Participants also evaluated how airport conditions and flight regulations can impact aircraft performance and discovered how financial planning tools can improve investment decision-making.

“Boeing’s partnership with Bahrain began in 1977, when Gulf Air received its first Boeing aircraft, a 737-200. Boeing’s investments have been pivotal in advancing the local aerospace sector, creating job opportunities, and fostering innovation,” noted Omar Arekat, vice president of Boeing’s Commercial Sales and Marketing for the Middle East. “As Bahrain’s aviation industry progresses, Boeing is committed to expanding its footprint by addressing the airline’s diverse fleet needs, including both passenger and cargo solutions. We eagerly anticipate strengthening our collaboration with Gulf Air and contributing to the advancement of Bahrain’s aviation sector.”

The workshop concluded with final remarks and the awarding of certificates by Gulf Air Group’s CEO, Dr. Jeffrey Goh.

This seminar underscores the strong partnership between Boeing and Gulf Air, reflecting a broader dedication to capacity building and leadership development in Bahrain’s aviation industry.

To date, Gulf Air has procured a total of 37 Boeing aircraft, including the 787-9 Dreamliner.
