Damen’s latest Ultra Shallow Shoalbuster 3815 SD has successfully completed sea trials and bollard pull evaluations. This newly developed vessel achieved an exceptional bollard pull of 18.6 tonnes while effectively operating in extremely shallow waters. Notably, the noise levels within all cabins remained under 53dB.
Damen engineered the Shoalbuster 3815 SD after extensive consultations with various workboat operators in the oil and gas sectors, as well as dredging industries and users who charter such vessels. This research highlighted the crucial need for a vessel that is entirely purpose-built for ultra-shallow water operations.
“Numerous projects around the globe operate in ultra-shallow environments – especially in the Arabian Gulf and the Caspian Sea,” asserts Jeroen van Woerkum, commercial manager at Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld. “We designed this vessel to provide substantial value to these projects.”
Operating Depth: 120cm
The results from the recent sea trials and bollard assessments of the Shoalbuster 3815 SD in the Middle East clearly demonstrate the vessel’s effectiveness. The total power output of 1,540 bhp from four 1,000mm aft propellers generated a significant 18.6 tonnes of bollard pull. The vessel boasts a working deck area of 185m2 and is fitted with two bow thrusters to facilitate enhanced maneuverability when necessary.
However, the most impressive aspect of the sea trials is the ultra-shallow draft specifications. The Shoalbuster 3815 SD can operate effectively in water depths as shallow as 120cm.
In addition to operational capabilities, Damen has paid careful attention to onboard comfort. The maximum noise levels in the living spaces are just 53dB. “In the workboat sector, known for its focus on power and efficiency, such minimal noise levels are an extraordinary benefit.”
The standard accommodations for the 250DWT vessel cater to 11 individuals in accordance with MLC regulations, with the option to expand to a total of 17 individuals.
Ready for Delivery
With sea trials concluded, the Shoalbuster 3815 SD is set to be available for delivery and operation by January 1st, 2020. “We are excited to present this state-of-the-art vessel to operators involved in hose, anchor, buoy handling, towing, and support operations for the oil & gas sector and the dredging industry in ultra-shallow waters.”
The generous working deck of 185m2 makes the Shoalbuster particularly suited for Single Buoy Mooring (SBM) maintenance, SBM hose repairs, and provides ample space for containerized units intended for diving support operations.
“Our team at Albwardy Damen is eager to welcome clients on board and showcase this ultra-shallow draft and versatile platform,” adds Mr. van Woerkum.
