“Revolutionizing Standards: The ASCALON® Gun Elevates Performance Testing”
KNDS is diligently advancing to showcase the progress of ASCALON® 140mm cannon and its ammunition. The recent firing exercise in May 2024 has illustrated the remarkable capabilities of both the 140mm and 120mm barrels, along with the maturity of the APFSDS munitions. The ASCALON® project encompasses several hundred firings of 120mm and 140mm barrels ranging from May 2022 to December 2025. The forthcoming vital stage includes firing assessments from a Main Battle Tank (MBT) in 2025.
A multifunctional cannon for superior modularity
KNDS’s demonstration executed firings with a 140mm ASCALON® barrel, promptly transitioning to a 120mm ASCALON® barrel before conducting additional firings of 120mm projectiles. This sequence of assessments emphasizes the adaptability provided by the ASCALON® framework to equip any barrel from 120mm to 140mm on a single carriage in less than one hour.
ASCALON®, the innovative cannon concept for the evolution of the MGCS primary weapon
The revolutionary ASCALON® concept achieves performance levels that current technologies cannot attain. It also presents considerable potential for future enhancements. As a leader in large-caliber artillery and munitions, KNDS designed ASCALON® with a flexible architecture to enable collaborative development of a combat artillery platform within the scope of the Franco-German MGCS initiative, setting the foundation for the future standard of European tank artillery and munitions.
