“Charting Tomorrow: KNDS Pioneers the Evolution of Advanced Main Battle Tanks”

Utilizing its state-of-the-art technology, KNDS has persistently adapted to the operational requirements of its clientele with proven and flexible systems. Today, KNDS reveals the three phases of its MBT initiative.

LEOPARD 2A8 and Leclerc XLR: the established standards of main battle tanks

KNDS is capitalizing on the extensive and expanding European LEOPARD clientele. The most recent version of the LEOPARD 2 A8 is characterized by exceptional protection, optimal reconnaissance functions, enhanced communication systems, and superior effectiveness on the combat field. It showcases a fruitful partnership with 22 allied nations.

Additionally, KNDS emphasizes the Leclerc XLR. The transition to the XLR standard for the French Army’s Leclerc fleet is underway. This upgrade of the Leclerc MBT for the French forces addresses critical needs for defense and communication, while future requirements will be tackled by the Leclerc Evolution starting in 2030.

LEOPARD 2 ARC 3.0 and Leclerc Evolution: the adaptable solutions for the next decade

For the first time, KNDS introduces the subsequent two phases of its MBT strategy: the LEOPARD 2 A-RC 3.0 and the Leclerc Evolution. Both systems are under development and feature a modular turret that facilitates a transition from a 120 mm to a 140mm ASCALON® cannon.

The Leclerc Evolution showcases a crewed turret fitted with a 120 mm ASCALON® cannon, which can be effortlessly upgraded to larger calibers reaching up to 140 mm. Offering a fresh approach with four crew members tailored for modern tactical scenarios, the Leclerc Evolution integrates a deputy commander station within the chassis to manage an extensive array of sensors and effectors, such as the ARX 30 RCWS, which is perfectly designed for counter-UAV operations alongside a loitering munition launcher.

The Leopard 2 ARC 3.0 is a three-crew MBT featuring an unmanned and modular turret capable of adapting to a primary gun ranging from 120mm to 140mm, paired with its autoloader. Additionally, the turret encompasses a 30mm secondary weapon and anti-tank missile systems.

Both the Leclerc Evolution and the Leopard 2 ARC 3.0 will guarantee commercial synergy and a cohesive vision for the third phase of KNDS’ initiative: the development of MBT prototypes paving the way for MGCS.

The EMBT ADT 140: envisioning the future

KNDS is proactively gearing up for MGCS by designing the ASCALON® Demonstrator Turret (ADT 140), a remotely-operated turret outfitted with a 140 mm ASCALON® cannon. During Eurosatory 2024, KNDS will exhibit the EMBT in conjunction with the ADT 140. This turret prototype seeks to validate KNDS’ unmatched firepower while showcasing its vision for future technological integration, encompassing sensor fusion, comprehensive hemispheric active defense, AI, cyber capabilities, and hybrid energy applications. In the arena of autonomous mobility, KNDS is progressing with a remotely operated main battle tank chassis.

This year, KNDS will highlight the exceptional firepower of the 140mm ASCALON® cannon and the versatility of its technology, capable of transitioning between 120 and 140mm calibers. In the upcoming month, we will demonstrate its efficiency in firing on the move utilizing a remotely controlled ASCALON® 140 mm turret.
