“First Do228 NXT Takes Flight: Progressing Smoothly with Exciting Technical Enhancements!”
The German aviation manufacturer General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) is in the process of developing and producing the innovative Do228 NXT. Drawing from the reliable and established Do228 model, the new series offers customers worldwide a mission-capable and adaptable aircraft for specialized operations and transport flights.
Now, the Do228 OEM is making significant advancements in the production workflow at its facility in Oberpfaffenhofen, with the completion of the inaugural Do228 NXT just a few months away.
Domestic production in Germany
To ensure top-notch quality in the aircraft production process and enhance the supply chain, the majority of manufacturing has been shifted to the company’s facility. Other crucial components are sourced from Germany or Europe. GA-ATS has established a state-of-the-art production center and executed numerous technical enhancements on the aircraft. “By concentrating on domestic production of the Do228 NXT, we guarantee that the aircraft will meet the highest standards, and the streamlined supply chains will lead to dependable deliveries,” remarked Florian Rohe, Managing Director of General Atomics AeroTec Systems.
Following the successful initiation of production for individual components of the Do228 NXT in 2024 – for instance, the wings are crafted in-house – final assembly for the first Do228 NXT has also commenced this year. Series production at the facility located at Oberpfaffenhofen Special Airport in Germany is advancing smoothly, heralding a new chapter for this mission-capable aircraft.
A plethora of technical advancements and enhancements
A multitude of technical advancements and enhancements has been applied for the series production of the Do228 NXT. These improvements encompass minor components to significant upgrades, being executed progressively.
Numerous cutting-edge components have been integrated that are more advanced compared to the earlier model Do228 NG. Among the new features are modern LED lighting in the cabin, upgraded braking systems, the incorporation of a new electric air conditioning unit, and a new AHRS (Attitude and Heading Reference System), among others. More efficient components and enhancements in the production process also yield further benefits, including cost reductions and weight savings.
With these technical advancements and the rapidly evolving production, the German aviation manufacturer General Atomics AeroTec Systems is on the brink of launching the Do228 NXT – the Next Generation of the iconic Do228.
