“Victory Ignited: Lockheed Martin and Rheinmetall Commemorate GMARS Triumph with Trailblazing Live-Fire Demonstration”

Lockheed Martin and Rheinmetall have successfully finalized the first live-fire assessment of the Global Mobile Artillery Rocket System (GMARS) launcher. This evaluation took place at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, marking a significant milestone in the development of this sophisticated long-range precision strike solution.

The GMARS launcher demonstrated its ability to launch Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) munitions, the same armament utilized by the United States and allied nations worldwide. This reinforces its interoperability with existing NATO infrastructures and boosts joint operational capabilities.

The system, which can be equipped with two ATACMS, four PrSM, or as many as twelve standard or extended-range GMLRS projectiles, is designed to deliver defense customers a mobile, robust, and flexible solution. It is built on the Rheinmetall HX vehicle platform, ensuring compatibility with deployed M270A2 and HIMARS systems.

“Lockheed Martin is committed to providing state-of-the-art solutions that address the evolving needs of our customers,” remarked Paula Hartley, Vice President and General Manager of Tactical Missiles at Lockheed Martin. “The GMARS project illustrates this commitment, and we are thrilled to have effectively demonstrated its capabilities during this live-fire event.”

With the live-fire phase successfully completed, both companies plan to accelerate the qualification and distribution of the launcher to global markets. GMARS is expected to enhance long-range precision strike capabilities for NATO forces and allied countries.

“We are pleased to have reached this pivotal milestone in the GMARS project,” said Dr. Björn Bernhard, CEO of Rheinmetall Vehicle Systems Europe. “The successful live-fire proves the system’s precision and reliability, and we are optimistic that GMARS will meet the evolving demands of our customers.”

The GMARS initiative employs proven components from HIMARS and M270 systems while allowing integration with allied platforms and munitions. It provides M270’s munitions capacity on a wheeled architecture tailored for European operational requirements.
