Hungary to Enhance Defense with Next-Gen Radar Systems from Rheinmetall and IAI/ELTA
The Hungarian military has placed an order for cutting-edge radar systems from Rheinmetall. A formal agreement was established on 11 December 2020.
In collaboration with its ally Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Rheinmetall will be delivering radar technologies tailored for diverse missions. Delivery of these systems is slated to commence at the close of 2022 and extend through to the conclusion of 2027.
Acting as the main contractor, Rheinmetall Canada will supply the sophisticated active 3D radar systems, produced by Rheinmetall’s partner ELTA, a division of IAI.
Hungary represents Rheinmetall Canada’s premier export market in the domain of radar system integration. In its home territory, Rheinmetall Canada has previously engaged successfully with IAI/ELTA in MRR initiatives completed for the Canadian military and plans to utilize its acquired experience in Canada for its new NATO associate.
“In collaboration with our counterpart IAI/ELTA, we are honored to have been chosen to enhance the Hungarian military’s radar capabilities,” states Stéphane Oehrli, President and CEO of Rheinmetall Canada. “Regarding technology transfer, our Hungarian affiliates will also reap benefits from this initiative. We’re thrilled to contribute to this global venture and assist in advancing the Hungarian defense sector.”
Yoav Tourgeman, IAI Vice President and CEO of ELTA remarked, “IAI/ELTA Systems commend Rheinmetall for the 3D Air Defence and Artillery radar project for the Hungarian Defence Forces. The collaborative initiative between Rheinmetall and IAI/ELTA Systems for the localization and provision of Multi Mission Radar systems continues the partnership established in the Canadian MRR project. IAI/ELTA is proud that its industry-leading 3D Multi Mission Radar system was chosen by the Hungarian forces for safeguarding the nation while supporting air defense and artillery NATO operations.”
This recent sales accomplishment once again highlights Rheinmetall’s willingness to engage in significant defense modernization ventures in close synergy with the armed forces and local industries of its allied nations.
