Hensoldt Unveils Cutting-Edge Airborne SIGINT Innovations
Innovations and deployment methods in airborne signal intelligence (SIGINT) have been effectively showcased by sensor technology provider HENSOLDT during a flight testing campaign at Hohn Air Base in Schleswig-Holstein.
The objective of the six flight tests, conducted collaboratively with GFD GmbH on a Learjet, was to provide representatives from the German client with insights into the available technologies and their potential for advancement. The results are intended to inform the strategy for future SIGINT capabilities across diverse aerial platforms.
In the so-called “Expansion Stage 1” of the demonstration, which was funded through corporate resources, the localization, direction-finding, tracking, and recording of signals were exhibited, successfully identifying and following transmitters operating within the communication frequency spectrum during tactical signal reconnaissance scenarios. For this demonstration, a system concept was devised and implemented to achieve optimal bearing precision and rapidity.
A subsequently planned “Expansion Stage 2” of the demonstration campaign will focus on surveillance and pattern recognition methodologies, potentially employing AI-driven techniques. The insights gained are intended to support the ongoing development of the versatile HENSOLDT product line KALÆTRON Integral® for the creation of a future scalable ELINT reconnaissance solution, suitable for various platform types – including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
HENSOLDT has been a leader in the electronic reconnaissance sector for many years. The company has created COMINT and ELINT sensors for the German Armed Forces and other NATO allies, integrating them into Electronic Warfare (EW) systems for the Air Force, Army, and Navy.
