“Leonardo Unveils Reimagined Brazilian Navy Super Lynx: A Flawless Soaring Premiere”
Leonardo is thrilled to announce the successful debut flight of the initial unit of eight upgraded Brazilian Navy Super Lynx Mk21B helicopters at its Yeovil facility in southwest England on 28th September 2017. These advanced Lynx helicopters will offer Brazil’s Naval Aviation a remarkable enhancement in operational capabilities, significantly improving aircraft performance and mission effectiveness.
The Super Lynx Mk21B is outfitted with two cutting-edge CTS800-4N engines, previously employed in the Super Lynx 300 and AW159 helicopters, which provide substantial performance improvements, particularly in high-temperature environments, enhancing payload capacity and mission efficiency. A newly designed glass cockpit is enhanced by an advanced avionics suite featuring a tactical processor, a satellite-based navigation system, civil navigation tools such as a Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), Automatic Identification System (AIS), radar warning receivers, electronic surveillance measures coordinated with countermeasure dispensers, and a fully Night Vision Goggle (NVG) compatible cockpit, in addition to a new electrically operated rescue hoist.
This inaugural flight marks another notable achievement in the enduring partnership between Leonardo and the Brazilian Navy, which has relied on Lynx helicopters since 1978.
