“Naval Group Teams Up with Six Hellenic Companies to Elevate Local Industry Engagement!”

On the 6th and 7th of May 2025 during the DEFEA exhibition in Athens, Naval Group reaffirmed its commitments to the Greek industry by signing fresh collaborative agreements with six Hellenic enterprises under the Hellenic Industrial Participation (HIP) initiative. This included four framework agreements aimed at supporting the FDI frigates, along with two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) for the integration of drones on surface vessels, in addition to the FDI HN program.

Naval Group, through its Athens-based subsidiary, Naval Group Hellas, has initiated new contracts with six Hellenic firms within the framework of the Hellenic Industrial Participation initiative launched in March 2022 at the inception of the FDI HN program.

Since then, the company has consistently increased the proportion of local content embedded within the FDI program, proving its ongoing dedication to incorporating the Hellenic industry into the FDI initiative and, more broadly, throughout its supply chain. Over 120 contracts have been established with approximately 70 Greek businesses.

Incorporation of Drones on Surface Ships

Naval Group and ALTUS LSA have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding for collaboration in the area of Unmanned Autonomous Vehicles (UAVs) adaptation and integration on naval vessels (FDI frigates, along with Gowind corvettes and other surface ships). Naval Group recognizes the significant potential and wide-ranging applicability of UAVs designed and manufactured in Greece by ALTUS, particularly the cutting-edge ATLAS-8. This partnership will also involve R&D initiatives through the submission of joint proposals for national, international, and European projects focused on research, development, and innovation.
Naval Group has also ratified a Memorandum of Understanding with the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI) to initiate discussions around the integration of the Centaur C-UAS system on the FDI platform, followed by potential integration into other surface vessels. HAI is specialized in aeronautical solutions and maintenance, and Naval Group has acknowledged its expertise in advancing the FDI program for the Hellenic navy, along with prospective collaborative endeavors. This partnership will also include R&D projects centered on the integration of C-UAS systems, such as anti-drone warfare technologies.

Enhancing the Integration of the Hellenic DITB through Local Support for the Future FDI HN Fleet

As the FDI program progresses, with the initial unit expected for delivery at the year’s end, Naval Group is increasingly engaging Hellenic enterprises in the support of frigates.
The four framework agreements established at DEFEA aim to enhance future support for the FDI Hellenic Navy in Greece, encompassing the following services:

  • FARAD: services for HVAC systems
  • DIVING STATUS: underwater inspection and maintenance operations
  • MELITA: diesel engine services
  • PETROS PETROPOULOS: diesel generator services

Broadening Collaboration with the Hellenic Industry, Beyond the FDI Initiative

Beyond the FDI initiative, this industrial strategy has generated numerous and lasting economic advantages for the Hellenic industry by integrating Greek firms into Naval Group’s supply chain for present and future French and export projects. From this broad perspective, the Hellenic Defence Industrial & Technological Base (DITB) will fortify its position in the global naval defense sector.

Currently, 75 Hellenic companies are listed in the Naval Group supply chain platform, enabling potential participation in Naval Group’s upcoming projects (both French and export).
Naval Group is also promoting the development of future Hellenic naval warfare capabilities through R&D projects with Hellenic businesses, universities, and research institutions (NTUA, the University of Patras, Forth Research Centre, the Hellenic Naval Academy), along with bilateral and European initiatives focused on structural monitoring and maritime surveillance.
