Exail Joins Forces with Navantia to Transform Navigation Systems for Spain’s S80 Submarines Using Innovative WECDIS Solutions

Saint Germain-En-Laye, France, 27/05/2024 – Exail, a leading expert in marine navigation, alongside its distributor in Spain, GRAFINTA, S.A., has successfully obtained a contract with Navantia to provide its Gecdis-W Warship Electronic Chart Display and Information System (WECDIS) for the four Spanish S80 Plus-class submarines.

Designed by Navantia for the Spanish Navy, the S80 Plus-class submarines are meticulously built with operational flexibility to navigate silently and swiftly at high velocities, enabling them to execute missions involving potential threats. The integration of the Exail Gecdis-W system will substantially enhance the submarines’ functionality, assisting the crew with digital navigational charts. Endorsed by the IMO as ECDIS software and entirely compliant with NATO’s STANAG standards, the Exail Gecdis-W system will serve as a collaborative navigational tool for the Spanish Navy during naval military operations.

“Exail and Grafinta are honored to maintain our strong partnership with Navantia and contribute our expertise to the Spanish S80 submarines,” stated Alexandre Maia, Regional Sales Manager at Exail. “Aligned with the core design goals of the S80 submarines, which emphasize stealth, endurance, and tactical flexibility in remote and potentially hostile environments, our WECDIS system is set to improve the operational efficiency and safety in submarine navigation in complex underwater landscapes.”

This recent milestone reinforces Exail’s superiority in marine navigation for Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems. Exail has indeed been selected to equip all platforms of the French Navy, as well as the naval forces of Latvia, India, Greece, UAE, and New Zealand.
