“US Army Advances Its Elite Units Through Innovative Partnership with Boeing”

The U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command (USASOAC) has awarded Boeing a $240 million contract to upgrade five MH-47G Block II Chinook helicopters. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2027.

“Fulfilling the needs of our special operators is of utmost importance,” remarked Heather McBryan, Vice President of Cargo Programs and program director for Boeing Defense, Space & Security. “USASOAC has unique and complex mission requirements, making it vital to provide the advanced capabilities of the MH-47G Block II promptly.”

This agreement comes after USASOAC’s acquisition of four MH-47G Block II helicopters in 2024. With this transaction, the Army now possesses a total of 51 MH-47G Block II helicopters under agreement. Boeing anticipates completing the entire USASOAC Chinook fleet by the beginning of 2030.

The MH-47G Block II heavy-lift helicopter significantly enhances the global operational capabilities of USASOAC. Featuring a fortified airframe, upgraded fuel storage, state-of-the-art avionics, and a configuration that supports future affordable modernization, this aircraft is ideally equipped for decades of reliable service ahead.
