Smitham, who recently held the position of Acting Ambassador at the US Embassy in Italy, has a distinguished career in the US diplomatic service, occupying senior roles both in Washington and internationally. He concentrated on economic and political matters during his various posts in Europe and the Americas, including locations such as Brussels, London, Mexico City, and Lima, Peru.
