Thailand Embraces the Gripen E/F: A Strategic Shift from the F-16
The Royal Thai Air Force has selected the Swedish-manufactured Gripen E/F fighter jet over the American F-16 in a recent assessment. The Thai government firmly believes that the Gripen E/F is the best choice for bolstering the nation’s security interests.
Initially, the Thai Air Force showed a preference for the Gripen; however, the administration explored alternative options that provided more advantageous financial terms. Ultimately, they resolved to stick with the Gripen E/F.
Thailand currently operates the earlier Gripen C and D models and plans to procure 12 new Gripen E/F fighter jets.
With this decision, Thailand becomes the third country to deploy the Gripen E/F, joining Sweden and Brazil.
The Gripen E/F is a next-generation fighter jet known for its advanced technology and broad operational capabilities. Nevertheless, it has faced fierce competition from various military aircraft in prior assessments.
