Gulf Air Takes Flight: Unveiling a New Era with 18 Cutting-Edge Boeing 787 Dreamliners!
Boeing and Gulf Air have announced an agreement for the procurement of 12 787 Dreamliner aircraft, with options for an extra six, as the Bahrain-based airline seeks to enhance its global network. Upon finalization, this order will elevate the airline’s firm order tally to 14 of these adaptable widebody aircraft and sustain 30,000 jobs across the U.S.
The signing event was attended by Bahrain’s Minister of Finance and National Economy Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, alongside Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and Khalid Taqi, Chairman of Gulf Air Group.
“This agreement represents a critical milestone in Gulf Air’s strategic advancement as we expand our international footprint and modernize our fleet with some of the industry’s most innovative and efficient aircraft,” affirmed Khalid Taqi, Chairman of Gulf Air Group. “The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has exhibited remarkable efficiency in our long-haul operations, and this recent acquisition reflects our confidence in its performance, passenger satisfaction, and aid in our sustainability goals. We look forward to deepening our partnership with Boeing and reaffirming our dedication to positioning Bahrain as a premier global aviation hub.”
The 787 Dreamliner, renowned for its fuel efficiency, extensive range, and superior passenger experience, serves as the backbone of Gulf Air’s long-haul operations, connecting over 50 destinations. With 10 787 aircraft currently in service, the airline is well-placed to broaden its network, catering to both new and existing markets across Asia, Europe, and the U.S.
“We are excited to enhance our over 60-year partnership with Gulf Air as we provide the market-leading 787 Dreamliner to enable the airline to serve more passengers and add more routes,” commented Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “This investment in the 787 Dreamliner showcases Gulf Air’s commitment to advanced technology and sustainable growth, further strengthening Bahrain’s position in the aviation sector.”
The 787 Dreamliner family has transformed international air travel by launching over 425 new nonstop routes and transporting more than 1 billion passengers worldwide since its commercial introduction in 2011. As Gulf Air’s flagship aircraft, the 787 features the largest windows of any widebody jet, air with decreased dryness, and is pressurized to a lower cabin altitude for improved comfort, along with technology that identifies and alleviates turbulence for a smoother journey.
Since receiving its first DC-3 in 1961, Gulf Air has taken delivery of 37 Boeing aircraft, including its current fleet of 787 jets.
