Jorge Tamarit Degenhardt Takes the Helm as Eurofighter’s New CEO

Jorge Tamarit Degenhardt has been designated Chief Executive Officer at Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH, the management entity for the Eurofighter Typhoon. He was chosen by the stakeholders of the Eurofighter consortium and directs the Company as a member of the Management Board.

Jorge, a dual national of Spain and Germany, arrives at Eurofighter from Airbus Defence & Space, where he has dedicated the last twenty years, advancing through the firm’s leadership to occupy various international executive positions.

His selection follows the Eurofighter three-year partner company rotation procedure. He takes over from Giancarlo Mezzanatto, who returns to Leonardo S.p.A.

Richard Hamilton, Chair of the Eurofighter Supervisory Board, stated: “On behalf of the Supervisory Board, we are thrilled to welcome Jorge to Eurofighter as the new Chief Executive Officer.

“Jorge brings extensive leadership expertise to the Company – encompassing the broader defence sector as well as the Eurofighter Programme – which will be immensely beneficial as more contracts are secured, and additional Typhoon aircraft are delivered over the forthcoming decade.

“We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Giancarlo Mezzanatto for his unwavering dedication and commitment to Eurofighter during his tenure as CEO. Giancarlo’s leadership achieved numerous successes for the programme, and we wish him all the best upon his return to Leonardo.”

Jorge possesses substantial Eurofighter experience, having recently served as the Programme Head for Spain, spearheading all initiatives related to the Airbus contribution within the Eurofighter consortium.

He also directed the Airbus C295 India Programme, where he managed the largest C295 order ever, while establishing India’s first private-sector aerospace and defence end-to-end production framework.

Jorge remarked: “I’m incredibly proud to join and guide Eurofighter – undeniably, one of the world’s premier weapons systems – at this pivotal moment for European security and integrity.

“I eagerly anticipate collaborating with all our partners to ensure that the Eurofighter programme maintains its remarkable trajectory on the order front, while simultaneously providing the cutting-edge capabilities our Air Forces require in both present and future combat scenarios.”

Jorge is joined on the BoM by Andy Kendall, Chief Operating Officer Programmes (BAE Systems); Cristiano Montrucchio, Chief Operating Officer Capabilities Sustainment and Future Enhancement (Leonardo S.p.A); Thomas Reinartz, Chief Financial and Commercial Officer (Airbus Defence & Space), Giammarco Quaglia, Director Business Support (currently in post); and Stephan Miegel, Transition Director.
