Pioneering Alliance: Royal Military Teams Up with Rheinmetall for Cutting-Edge Infantry Ammunition Developments

Rheinmetall AG and Defence Equipment and Support, the UK’s armament procurement authority, have formalized a new framework agreement for the ongoing acquisition of infantry ammunition. This framework will act as the primary source for specific impact rounds, munitions, and grenades over the next 5 to 7 years, with a projected turnover of up to €100 million (£90 million).

Rheinmetall is consistently enhancing its position as a prominent provider of munitions. Recently, the Dutch military extended a supply partnership for ammunition with the Düsseldorf-based expert in security and mobility technology, continuing until the end of 2030.

The renewed contract with British procurement authorities solidifies Rheinmetall as the preferred supplier of 25 different infantry ammunition types, manufactured at four facilities in Germany and Switzerland. Simon Valencia, Sales Director of Rheinmetall Weapon and Munitions UK, expressed, “We are excited to renew our longstanding supply agreement with the UK MoD and provide the British Armed Forces with reliable, high-quality products that have been proven both in operational settings and during training over the past fifteen years. This new contract ensures the UK MoD gets value for its investment and continues to trust in the dependable provision of assured munitions products. The UK MoD is a significant strategic partner for Rheinmetall, and this agreement strengthens our ongoing growth in the UK Defence Sector.”

Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) is currently in the process of negotiating multiple framework agreements with defence suppliers to enable ongoing procurement of active munitions. The agreement with Rheinmetall Defence signifies the first contract DE&S has approved with the ammunition industry under framework terms, marking a positive development in the UK MoD’s interaction with the sector.
