Boeing is set to initiate the development of two novel U.S. variants of the E-7 Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) aircraft through a $1.2 billion Undefinitized Contract Action.

The E-7 offers a fully integrated, combat-tested, and adaptable command and control hub that ensures multi-domain awareness in the most demanding operational conditions. The E-7’s open systems framework and flexible software design allow the aircraft’s capabilities to advance and stay ahead of forthcoming threats.

“The E-7 is a confirmed platform,” stated Stu Voboril, Vice President and General Manager of the E-7 program. “It is the sole sophisticated aircraft able to satisfy the U.S. Air Force’s immediate Airborne Early Warning & Control needs while facilitating integration across joint forces.”

The E-7 monitors various airborne and maritime threats concurrently with 360-degree surveillance through the Multi-role Electronically Scanned Array (MESA) sensor. MESA equips the warfighter with crucial domain awareness to detect and identify hostile targets at long distances and dynamically adapts to evolving tactical scenarios.

Additional E-7 users include the Royal Australian Air Force, Republic of Korea Air Force, Turkish Air Force, and the United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force.

The E-7 operates on a robust supply chain that substantially lowers maintenance and logistics expenses while enhancing mission readiness from day one. Adapted from the Next-Generation 737-700, the E-7 leverages existing design, certification, and modification processes of commercial derivative aircraft, enabling the rapid deployment of E-7s to fulfill Air Force requirements.
