The new Helicopter Training Academy in the US offers ground, in-flight, and virtual instruction for aspiring pilots. It features a diverse selection of digital courses, flight experiences, simulations, and mission training tailored to various mission profiles. Additionally, extensive maintenance training will take place in a dedicated wing of the Academy, equipped with an extensive range of maintenance training tools and displays. Advanced technological systems will enable real-time tracking of individual training progress, customizable for each helicopter type within the US training syllabus.
The Training Academy in the US includes:
- Ten multimedia classrooms – designed for both small and large group training. These classrooms are outfitted with cutting-edge technology, aimed at delivering interactive 2D/3D graphics that promote engaging and immersive learning experiences.
- Three maintenance simulators – featuring an AW139, an AW119, and soon an AW609. These simulators are essential for training, offering students (both technicians and pilots) hands-on experience with various aspects of the aircraft, allowing for classroom instruction followed by practical application on the simulators.
- Two full-flight motion simulators – one for the AW139 and another for the AW169/AW609, equipped with roll-on/roll-off capabilities. Co-developed by Leonardo and CAE and managed by their Rotorsim joint venture, these simulators provide realistic training for specific missions, such as offshore operations, law enforcement, EMS, and passenger transport. The AW139 full flight simulator was moved to Philadelphia from Whippany, New Jersey, while the new AW169 is one of only two globally available simulators that integrate certified OEM data into the simulated environment. An available bay will allow for the addition of a third full flight simulator as demand increases.
Special facilities for students provide a peaceful space for quiet relaxation or mindfulness through meditation, along with a gym equipped for physical exercise, which includes locker rooms and showers for added convenience.
