Australia Partners with DCNS for Innovative SEA 1000 Submarine Project
The Australian Government has selected DCNS as its preferred international collaborator for the creation of 12 Future submarines for the Royal Australian Navy. This announcement was made by the Australian Prime Minister, the Hon. Malcolm Turnbull, in conjunction with the Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon. Marise Payne, the Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, the Hon. Christopher Pyne, and The Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Tim Barrett.
The Australian Government stated: “The decision was shaped by DCNS’s ability to effectively meet all of the Australian Government’s criteria. These included advanced sensor capabilities and stealth characteristics, as well as range and endurance comparable to the Collins Class submarine. The Government’s assessments also factored in budget considerations, timelines, program execution, lifecycle support, and participation from the Australian industry.”
“This milestone has been made possible through the strong partnership between the French Authorities, DCNS, and our industrial collaborators,” remarked DCNS Chairman and CEO, Mr. Herve Guillou.
“France and Australia have shared an alliance for over a century, and we look forward to further strengthening this historic relationship while honoring the confidence that the Australian Commonwealth Government places in us for this pioneering project,” Mr. Guillou commented. Following deliberations on commercial aspects, the design phase for the Future Submarine with DCNS is expected to begin this year.
