Kongsberg Secures Landmark Deal to Supply Naval Strike Missiles to Spain
The Spanish Navy has granted a contract valued at EUR 305 million to Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) for the supply of Naval Strike Missiles (NSM). The inaugural ship class set to be outfitted with NSM is the F-110 class frigate, which is presently being constructed by Navantia. The missiles are designed to be installed on the F-100 frigates during their Mid-Life Update, in addition to future vessels.
The Spanish Navy, which opted for NSM in 2022, is procuring the missiles through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). This marks the inaugural missile contract for Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace managed by NSPA.
KONGSBERG will concurrently enter into a collaboration agreement with the Directorate General for Armament and Material (DiGAM) as a basis for creating an industrial strategy that will enhance Spanish industry participation and collaboration. This includes the potential to integrate into the global missile supply network, as well as a proposal to set up comprehensive life cycle maintenance capabilities for NSM at the Rota Naval Base, in partnership with local industry.
KONGSBERG anticipates that this contract will establish a regional presence for their missile initiatives, and all parties are optimistic that the engagement involving the Spanish Navy, KONGSBERG, and NSPA will foster enhanced collaboration among NATO allies utilizing NSM.
