BAE Systems Secures $65.7 Million Deal to Enhance US Navy’s Air Traffic Control Capabilities

The U.S. Navy has chosen BAE Systems for a five-year single-award indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract valued at $65.7 million for air traffic control (ATC) platform maintenance and engineering services. The firm will leverage its technical, engineering, and operational knowledge to develop, manufacture, equip, test, assess, sustain, and refresh critical expeditionary ATC aviation systems for the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division’s (NAWCAD) Webster Outlying Field (WOLF).

“With this victory, BAE Systems will enable expeditionary forces to swiftly set up an airfield equipped with radar and communication systems to securely recover and launch aircraft,” stated Lisa Hand, vice president and general manager of BAE Systems’ Integrated Defense Solutions division. “We act as the automation authority and technical coordinator, tasked with the development and enhancement of real-time ATC computer systems. Our radar specialists are deployed globally to assist the warfighter; their contributions lead to faster turnover to the end user, improved reliability of hardware, and heightened accuracy in installations and precision in the field.”

This new agreement extends BAE Systems’ decade-long commitment to supporting vital projects on essential systems, such as the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS); Air Traffic Navigation, Integration, and Coordination System (ATNAVICS); Airfield Mobile Tactical Air Navigation System (AMTAC); and ATNAVICS Data Link System (ADLS). Under this contract, the company will craft and sustain operational software and supporting test beds, field change initiatives, and supplies for ATC systems. These systems serve as essential ATC instruments that bolster flight safety, particularly when end users are operating in rugged or undeveloped terrain airfields lacking established military bases.

Whether enhancing radar, implementing software upgrades, repairing hardware, or certifying tactical and shore-based ATC systems, BAE Systems’ engineering, technical, and sustainment efforts will guarantee that airfield systems remain dependable and precise.
