Hanwha Aerospace Secures $1.67M Rocket Systems Partnership with Poland

Hanwha Aerospace announced on Thursday that it has secured a contract valued at 2.3 trillion won ($1.67 billion) to furnish 72 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) to Poland by 2029.

This recent agreement is a continuation of the Polish administration’s initiative to procure 290 units of MLRS. The Eastern European nation acquired 5 trillion won worth of MLRS units, totaling 218, in late 2022, with deliveries expected by 2026.

This marks the inaugural arms sales contract established with the newly elected Polish government, which took office in December 2023.

However, financial agreements involving state-owned financial institutions in both nations must still be finalized by November to complete the contract, as stated by the company.

“This agreement reflects our commitment to bolstering the security landscape in Poland and the surrounding region, regardless of political and societal dynamics. Hanwha Aerospace takes pride in our ongoing commitment to providing necessary deterrence solutions to areas with pressing needs,” stated Son Jae-il, president and CEO of Hanwha Aerospace, in a press release on Thursday.

The MLRS stands as one of the Korean defense systems Poland acquired to strengthen its military capabilities in response to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In 2022, Poland initiated procurement agreements totaling 17 trillion won to acquire K2 tanks, K9 self-propelled howitzers, FA-50 light attack aircraft, and Chunmoo MLRS, marking Korea’s largest arms export transaction to date.
