Safran Partners with armasuisse to Revolutionize Infrared and Night Vision Technology.
Switzerland’s Federal Office for Defense Procurement, armasuisse, a segment of the Federal Department of Defense, has chosen Safran Vectronix AG, the Swiss arm of Safran Electronics & Defense, via an international tender to equip the nation’s military forces with a cutting-edge collection of infrared handheld multifunction binoculars and night vision goggles (NVG). The associated federal budget received the green light from the Swiss Parliament at the end of September 2019.
The agreement entails the provision of over 1,000 multifunction infrared goggles (JIM Compact™, MOSKITO TI™) and more than 8,000 stereoscopic night vision goggles (NYX™). Switzerland’s decision reinforces Safran’s position as a leading provider of handheld optronic devices worldwide.
The technology scheduled for delivery will significantly enhance the operational effectiveness of the Swiss Armed Forces. It aims to meet various operational needs, including day/night observation, target acquisition even in GNSS-denied environments, and modifications for artillery and firing for forward observation and Joint Tactical Air Controller, suitable for all weather conditions.
Through its strategic partnership with Theon Sensors, Safran Electronics & Defense highlights its essential role in the night vision goggles sector, having secured a mass production contract along with long-term support for its fleet.
“We extend our sincere thanks to armasuisse for its ongoing confidence in Safran Vectronix AG, and we are proud to deliver the latest technological innovations in night vision for dismounted troops,” remarked Max Kreis, CEO of Safran Vectronix AG. “The JIM Compact™ and MOSKITO TI™ systems, together with the NYX™ night vision goggles, will be manufactured and supported by Safran Vectronix AG in Heerbrugg, Switzerland.”
