KNDS Breakthroughs Propel Next-Gen Loitering Munitions Forward

In partnership with Delair, a UAV technology pioneer, KNDS has developed an innovative warhead for loitering munitions capable of observing, identifying, and neutralizing both stationary and dynamic threats within a 5km radius, with an operational duration of 45 minutes. A prototype of this state-of-the-art warhead has been achieved in under two years. The first prototype is scheduled to undergo test flights with this warhead at the end of June 2024, in collaboration with the French defense procurement authority (DGA).

LARINAE, the anti-armor loitering munitions, launches

With an effective operational range of 3 hours, covering distances from 80 to 120km, this loitering munition will feature a 3kg explosively-formed penetrator charge proficient in targeting armored assets while bypassing their active defense mechanisms. In partnership with EOS Technologie and TRAAK, the preliminary demonstrations featuring a non-explosive charge are set for early 2025.

This system, potentially recyclable, will also support intelligence operations through an electro-optical system capable of detecting vehicles at 15 km during daylight and 3 km at night. It boasts navigational capabilities in contested environments (jamming) thanks to its secure radio connection extending up to 80km, provided by KNDS France Robotics. LARINAE is available with two distinct platforms: a vertical take-off and landing system (VTOL) and a high-speed UAV (VELOCE). Both systems are equipped with an efficient mechanism for arming and disarming the warhead, allowing operators to retrieve them easily and safely.

KNDS, a trusted partner with expertise in loitering munitions

The AID has entrusted KNDS with the rapid development of loitering munitions, not only to rectify France’s deficiencies in this domain but also to ensure that it remains “one step ahead,” as stated by the Chief of Staff of the French forces.

KNDS designs, integrates, and manufactures loitering munition systems to confront modern threats with cutting-edge warheads for multiple targets; diverse navigation and engagement modes suitable for GNSS-denied scenarios; along with safe, secure, and user-friendly systems for operators.
